Guild of Bricklayers Wales Section Craft Competition

Updated: May 11, 2023

The Guild of Bricklayers Craft Competition, Wales Section, was hosted at Newtown College in March 2023. The event saw competitors from a range of colleges and training providers across Wales come together to test their skills within their peer group of Junior and Senior entries. Pathways Training apprentices Katie Price and Simon Martin also took part in the competition.

An association formed in 1932, the Guild aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork. Competitions are a long-standing tradition within the Guild, dating back over 40 years. The betterment of the art of bricklaying has benefited from these competitions.

Richard Jones, Brickwork lecturer at Newtown College, said “This was the first competition for Kate, from Newtown College and Simon from Neath College who are both in the first year of their apprenticeships. Both apprentices proved that they could work well under pressure and produced a high standard of work and were well deserving of their merits.”
