Ruben Duggan is a 21-year-old plumbing and heating expert, currently working as a skilled plumber at Powerserv LTD.
Plumbing has been Ruben’s passion since he left school, and he’s been fortunate to embark on a fulfilling journey in the industry. His qualification journey started with a Level 3 apprenticeship, which provided him with valuable hands-on experience and essential skills. Through dedication and hard work, Ruben has honed his craft to deliver top-notch plumbing and heating solutions to clients.
After securing first place at the 2022 HIP Apprentice of the Year competition, Ruben was also selected to compete in the plumbing category of the Euro Skills 2023 competition.
In its eighth year, Euro Skills is the biggest vocational education and skills contest in Europe which sees hundreds of young people, under the age of 25, from across the continent compete for the chance to become the best in Europe in their chosen skill. Ruben placed third in his category, coming away with a bronze medal and making him not only the best young plumber in the UK, but now the third best young plumber in the whole of Europe.
International competitions have played a crucial role in shaping his career. They have not only provided him with invaluable experiences but also opened numerous doors and opportunities in the industry. The thrill of competition and exposure to different plumbing techniques have further fuelled his determination to be the best in what he does.
Since receiving a bronze medal in Gdnask in September 2023, Ruben has also been selected to be a part of the UK squad for the global World Skills competition, otherwise known as the ‘Skills Olympics’, taking place in Lyon next year where he will have the opportunity to compete with national teams from over 80 countries.
