Skills Academy Wales - Inspiring a brighter future

What is a Traineeship?

A Traineeship is a non-employed status training programme for 16 - 19 year olds with work experience that is focused on giving young people the skills, qualifications and experience to enable them to progress at the earliest opportunity to learning at a higher level or to employment.

Traineeships are very flexible and by working closely with Skills Academy Wales, you can design a programme which suits your needs and those of the young person.

Traineeships can last from six weeks up to six months and will include:

  • Work preparation training provided by Skills Academy Wales;
  • English and maths support if required;
  • Valuable work experience provided your company;
  • A weekly training allowance paid to the young person by Skills Academy Wales.

In addition to these basic elements, you and Skills Academy Wales can add flexible additional content to meet the needs of your business and the local labour market.

At the end of the Traineeship, each young person will receive the appropriate support and guidance to progress onto an apprenticeship with your company, further education, voluntary work or alternative employment.
